Intermediality (text-image relations, ekphrasis in particular); graphic novels; cultural studies; literary theory; interculturality and postcolonialism; cosmopolitanism; history and anthropology of the media; literature and anthropology; early modernity (frühe Neuzeit); 19th and 20th century women writers in English; semiotics; autobiography research; feminist literary theory, transculturalism.
