Julia Straub has been teaching American literature at the University of Berne since 2006. She studied English, French and Philosophy at the University of Constance from 1997-2003. She taught at the University of Göttingen in 2004 and spent two years as a visiting PhD-student at the University of York, UK. Her first book, entitled A Victorian Muse. The Afterlife of Dante’s Beatrice in Nineteenth-Century Literature (London: Continuum, 2009), looks at the reception of Dante’s works in Victorian literature. Current research projects include authenticity as a critical concept in literary and cultural studies, American melodrama and eighteenth-century transatlantic mobility.
