KSL Course Registration
General Course Registration
You need to register in KSL for every course you take. Exceptions are the BA/MA Thesis, the Stay Abroad, Independent Studies and the three guest lecture attendances.
There may be more than one version of the same course in KSL (graded/ungraded, old/new study plan), so make sure you register for the right version.
The periods for registration (or deregistration) for courses are:
|Autumn semester||2 August - 15 October|
|Spring semester||15 January - 15 March|
After the deadline your course registration is binding and cannot be changed.
Once you are registered for a course, you will automatically have access to that course on ILIAS and you will be automatically also signed up for the exam. There are no assessment registrations, apart from seminar papers.
For general advice on how the registration process works on KSL, please watch the video tutorials KSL provides on their website.
If you take the Language Modules (Grammar I&II and Writing Skills I&II) you will need to sign up for the course Grammar I and/or Writings Skills I (0 ECTS) in the autumn semester, and for the Grammar II and/or Writing Skills II (6 ECTS) in the spring semester. You will only receive a grade for both completed courses at the end of both semesters for all 6 ECTS.
When you register for a Focus Module, you need to register for 2 courses: the ungraded Focus Module lecture and the seminar connected to the lecture. You also need to register for the seminar assessment (paper) by the assessment deadline (see the tab "KSL Assessment Registration").
Every BA and MA lecture is offered as an ungraded and as a graded course. Make sure you register for the right version (graded/ungraded) by the course registration deadline. If you register for the graded version, you do not need to register for the assessment separately. You are automatically registered for the grade assessment.
There are two KSL versions for BA colloquia with different ECTS credits. Make sure you sign up for the correct version.
Students studying with Study Plan 2017 register for the 2 ECTS "BA Colloquium" course. If you are studying with an older study plan (pre-2017), in your first semester of the BA colloquium, you need to register for the 1 ECTS "BA Colloquium (Old Study Plan - first semester)" course. In the second semester, you need to register for the 2 ECTS “BA Colloquium” course – the same course as people in the new study plan.
There are two KSL versions for MA Colloquia with different ECTS credits. Make sure you sign up for the correct version.
Students studying with Study Plan 2017 register for the "MA Colloquium (Study Plan 2017)" course. Students studying with an older study plan (pre-2017) register for the "MA Colloquium (Old Study Plan)" course.
KSL Assessment Registration
For graded seminars, you need to register in KSL for the seminar AND for the seminar assessment, which is a paper, an exam or some other form of assessment. Note that graded lectures do not have a separate assessment. Here you either register for the graded or ungraded version of the course by the course registration deadline. Once you are registered for the course, you are automatically registered for the assessment.
Examples for assessment registrations are:
A Focus Module (10 ECTS): register for the ungraded Focus Module lecture (3 ECTS), the Focus Module seminar (4 ECTS) and the seminar assessment (3 ECTS).
A BA or MA seminar (7 ECTS): register for the seminar (4 ECTS) and the seminar assessment (3 ECTS).
Registration deadlines for assessments are later in the semester. This gives you some time to decide whether you want to take a seminar graded or ungraded.
The deadlines for registration (and deregistration) for graded assessments are:
|Autumn semester||15 November|
|Spring semester||15 April|
After these deadlines your registration is binding and cannot be changed.
For the two MA Foundation Lectures ("Literary Theory" and "Language and Society"), you do not need to register for the assessment separately. If you need a grade for the lecture(s), sign up for the 4-ECTS graded version on KSL. If you take the lecture as an ungraded course, sign up for the 3-ECTS ungraded version on KSL. In this case, observe the course registration deadlines.
