Marion Troxler has recently finished her PhD as part of the SNSF-funded project The Beach in the Long Twentieth Century with a dissertation titled “Making Head and Tail: Reading Merfolk and the Littoral as Resistance to Domination”. Drawing on the Blue Humanities and Ecofeminist theories, Marion's project reads the littoral together with merfolk and explores their possibilities to engender counter-narratives to hegemonic dualistic structures.

In 2025, the SNSF project has finalised its atlas called Digital Shores: An Interactive Atlas of Beach Narratives. Marion has contributed to the project with her corpus of merfolk narratives. Explore the atlas here: https://dhbern.github.io/reading-the-beach/
