Jess completed her MA in Sociolinguistics at the Centre for the Study of Language and Society (CSLS) in 2025. Her doctoral research explores how language change in the West Midlands of England is shaped by demographic shifts along a rural-urban divide, and how these processes are mediated by place-based identities and ethnic diversity.

Variationist sociolinguistics; dialect levelling and contact; language, place, and identity; indexicality and enregisterment; metalinguistic practices.
