Sustainability

The University of Bern is working towards becoming a carbon neutral institution by 2025, and has committed to incorporating sustainability in teaching, research and business operations.

Our Department has long been incorporating cultural and environmental sustainability in our teaching: core curriculum courses such as Literary History and Earlier Englishes address sustainability issues, such as canon formation and literary and linguistic heritage, as do many of the seminars and lectures. Apart from teaching, our staff have also led and participated in  research projects concerned with climate change, sustainability and the "nature/culture" divide.

The English Department staff members are active researchers, participating in conferences around the world. We commit to following the guidelines for sustainable business travel, and have distributed the traffic light system for business trips and the factsheet amongst our staff.
