Incoming Exchange and Visiting Students

External students can join our department for one or two semesters as part of an exchange program or an academic visit.

Course Selection

After acceptance, you can choose your courses. Course booklets for the next semester are published in May (for autumn) and December (for spring). They contain all the information you need for planning.

Incoming exchange and visiting students are not allowed to take:

  • Core Curriculum courses
  • Language Module courses
  • BA Colloquia or BA Thesis modules
  • The ARL module
  • The Stay Abroad module

Bachelor-level exchange and visiting students must enquire with instructors directly as to whether they can register for MA-level courses in our department.

You may enrol in any other courses that are suitable for your level of study.

Course Catalogue and Registration

The course catalogue is available at www.ksl-vv.unibe.ch. Please note that some courses may not appear in the catalogue until shortly before the start of the semester.

Course registration is only possible after you have received your campus account. Information about course and exam registration will be sent to you a few weeks before the semester begins.

Due to KSL restrictions, external students cannot complete registration for BA courses without prior departmental approval. Please contact our study counsellors well before registration opens to inform them of the courses you intend to register for.

General information for incoming students is available on the official University of Bern Mobility website.
